5 Reasons to Take a River Cruise with Scenic Cruises

“The journey not the arrival matters.” – T. S. Eliot

TS Eliot quote

In these six simple words, T.S. Eliot reminds us that a journey is more than a movement from one point to another, but that it is what happens during the journey that matters and the arrival is just the outcome.  This ad for Jaguar gives us the idea that arriving in style is a great way to go.  Sometimes I think we are in such a hurry to get to the destination that we forget that the journey is part of the process.  One way to make the journey is to slow down.  And by doing that, you have a chance to catch your breath and relax.  Take for instance, river cruises in Europe.  Although I have never been on one, I can see that it allows for the journey to unfold slowly in front of you.

Here are 5 reasons to take a river cruise with the luxury Scenic Cruises in Europe:

You only have to unpack once. Enough said.

Upon awakening, the next city unveils itself to you as you glide closer and closer to the next destination.   It is, after all, Europe and the river is only 38 feet wide at the widest spot.

Inclusions:  Wifi, Apple mini-mac computers, excursions, meals, lodging with a pillow menu, Egyptian cotton sheets, personal butler service and two free pressings per day!   The word is INclusion and not EXclusion, like most other cruise lines.  I mean, how perfect is this?

Themed river-walking tours are provided to each guest with a GPS device.

And last, but not least, all gratuities have been taken care of!  Can you imagine?

My plan for 2014 is to do slow travel.  To give my mind and my body a rest and let each cell within my body soak in every moment of the journey, so that I can engrain that memory into my minds’ eye and have vivid dreams of the moments I spend on the pathway to a more authentic travel journey.  Jibberish for “it’s just easier on the mind, body, and soul”.

My brand is “value luxury”, so it fits the bill for luxury, and the best way to make this work for value is to use your frequent flyer airlines miles to get yourself across the pond to Europe. The port to get to is Amsterdam with return out of Zurich for this cruise which should be easy to find.  There are also early booking incentives on the cruise ship, so be sure and book early, so that you can get those as well.

Suggest you read the reviews on CruiseCritic regarding the various river cruise lines. While I have never taken one, there are experienced cruisers who cover the pros and cons (read about the high water situation this summer and which lines handled it best). Similar cruises are offered by all the lines, but the level of service varies. Friends just returned from an AMAWaterways cruise Amsterdam to Zurich, and they raved about it.

Marilyn, I certainly will read the reviews before I take a river cruise, was just thinking about the concept of slower travel in Europe, since I just came off a whirlwind trip from Italy and Ireland and hoping to slow things down a bit! Thanks for the tip about CruiseCritic, I do believe I have heard of them.
