Be airport savvy and save cash

Long haul Flights

Airplane travel

While the familiar things in life offer us a safety blanket, there is much to be said for trying something new. When it comes to holidays and travel, this can take on many forms, from where you go, to where you stay, and even where you leave from. Flying from a different airport to where you usually do isn’t a risk, in fact, it’s a change you should think about making.

There’s no doubt that some airports seem to be cheaper than others in terms of airfares; don’t ask me why, it’s just the way it is, so why shouldn’t you try and save a little here, giving you more to spend at the resort. I regularly head to where the airfare is cheaper, as long as the cost of getting to this different airport still works out cheaper with my flight combined. I have to admit, I quite like the adventure of it too!

If you’re traveling to a further away airport and you have an early flight, then it’s always a good idea to think about staying over for the night, and with countless airport hotels offerings, you’re going to be spoilt for choice. I recently took advantage of a cheap flight from Gatwick, and I booked the Hilton Gatwick to grab some extra hours sleep before my early check-in. This whole idea worked wonders, and it’s certainly something I’ll do again. Check out what’s available from your departure airport and reap the rewards of not only extra sleep, but the lower stress levels of knowing you’re exactly where you need to be, ahead of time.

The key is to have travel insurance

The key is to have travel insurance

Of course, with extra distance comes extra worry, so insure your travel plans and take away some of the concern. You shouldn’t even leave the house and intend on going near an airport without having insured your holiday first, so head to a price comparison website and find your deal. If you’re concerned about any medical problems increasing the price of your policy, don’t worry, because if you search you can find great value policies offering pre-existing medical condition insurance, so it’s not an excuse to go without!

You might see traveling further for your flight as a risk, but you need to open your mind and see the advantages instead. We mentioned insurance, so as long as you’re insured, you have a safety net to fall back onto. Arrive early, stay over if you need to, and you’ll have no worries. Different airports also have different facilities, so you could spend a few hours enjoying different restaurants and shops, rather than the ones you’re used to, whilst keeping precious pounds in your pocket as you go along.

Say for instance if you lived in Southern California, you could have the option of flying out of John Wayne Airport or Burbank Airport instead of say LAX.
